ROBBINS, NORTH CAROLINA: Willie Grover Maness, 93, died November 22, 2011 at Pinelake Health and Rehab in Carthage. He was born January 19, 1918 to Willie and Maude Maness, and was a Moore County native. He was a retired farmer and a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett. He is survived by a sister, Clara M. Lowe of Greensboro; and his nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ettie Maness; and four sisters, Myrtle Martindale, Geneva Caviness, Beatrice Wallace and Blanche Hill. Services were held at Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett. Services were held at Beulah Baptist Church. Interment was at the church cemetery by Joyce-Brady Funeral Home.
TIMBERLAKE, NORTH CAROLINA: Robert Arthur Mangum, 79, died July 12, 2010. He was born Januray 15, 1931 to the late Walter A. Mangum, Sr. and Parthene Castle Mangum. He retired from Nortel, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Tim West, Dean West, John West, Lisa Jackson, Vickie West Sorrell, and Kim West; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews; and 6 great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ollie M. Mangum, Linda F. Mangum Jackson, Betty J. Mangum West, and Virginia H. Mangum; and two brothers, Walter A. Mangum, Jr., and Thomas O. Mangum. Interment was at Riverview United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bahama under the direction of Brooks and White Funeral Home.
ELIZABETH CITY, NORTH CAROLINA: Etta Pierce Mann, 90, died October 14, 2002 at Carolina Living in Elizabeth City. She was born August 12, 1912 to Charlie Henry and Narcissia Laurietta Stewart Pierce. She was a native of South Mills, NC. She was a retired bookkeeper with Hopkins Brothers, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabeth City. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Jean M. Wallace; 4 step-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Mann. Interment was at New Hollywood Cemetery with arrangements by Twiford Memorial Chapel.
ELIZABETHTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA: Murdock Elvington Marshall II, 21, died March, 8 1982. He was born July 4, 1961. Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Joyce Marshall; a brother, Andrew M. MILLERS CREEK, NORTH CAROLINA: Hettie Mae Parsons Mash, 92, died July 3, 2002 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. She was born June 6, 1910 in Wise County, VA to James and Gertie Miller Parsons. She was a member of Jesus Life Worship Center. Survivors include two sons, Sherill Mash of Millers Creek, and Rev. Harold C. JACKSONVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Charles Edward Mason, Sr., 22, died in November of 1943. He was a casualty of World War II, and had served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a native of Denver, CO. CANTON, NORTH CAROLINA: Roy Lee Maynard, 90, died June 18, 2009 at his home. He was born April 7, 1919 in Buncombe County to the late William Hampton and Hattie Angel Maynard. He worked as a painter, and attended Spring Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Betty Farmer Maynard; a sister, Annie Barry of Skyville, MD; two brothers, Arthur and Grover Maynard of Buncombe County; his cousins; his nieces and nephews; and his friends. KENLY, NORTH CAROLINA: Jimmy McCoy Mayo, 69, died May 6, 2011. He was born March 4, 1942 in Johnson County to Silas McCoy Mayo and Juanita Aldridge Mayo. He retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol with 30 years of service, and served with the US. Army Military Police. Following retirement, he was a farmer. He was a member of Little Rock Original Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie M. Fielder of OK; a son, Patrick K. Mayo of Lucama; three sisters, Patricia M. Ross of Hillsborough, Margie M. GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA: Archie Olandrus McArthur, 55, died August 4, 2005 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was born September 12, 1949 in Surry County to Nathaniel and Leona Reynolds McArthur. He was the first African-American to attend Mount Airy City Schools, and later attended Elizabeth City State University. He was a U.S. Postal Service employee with over 30 years of service, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Linda Rogers McArthur; two sons, Marquis McArthur and Archie McArthur, both of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Yolanda McArthur of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Artavious L. (Kathy) McArthur of Mount Airy, and Carlton L. (Kandance) McArthur of Fort Washington, MD; a sister, Demetries M. LUMBERTON, NORTH CAROLINA: Lt. J.D. Monroe, 27, was killed in action in France during World War II on June 23, 1944. He served with the 8th Air Force, and had
entered military service in 1942. He was a member of the Lumberton Kiwanis Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Lumberton. He was survived by his wife, Ethel McKinney Monroe; and his mother, Bess Monroe. Interment was at the Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery near Maxton.

FAYETTEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: Job Navarrete, Sr. 76, died February 24, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center. He was born April 3, 1930 in Texas to Edwardo Navarrete and San Guana Garcia. He was a retired U.S. Army sergeant with over 23 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II and Vietnam, and served in the 82nd, 101st and 173rd Airborne Divisions. Survivors include his wife, Soyla Navarrete; a son, Ricardo Navarrete of Fayetteville; two daughters, Cynthia Leggett of Fayetteville, and Belinda Smith of Parkton; his stepmother, Olivia Navarrete of Sioux City, IA; a brother, Edwardo Navarrete, Jr. of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Ruth Castillo and Geri Negron, both of Sioux City, IA; seven half-sisters, Gladys Lara of Harlingen, TX, Oralia Aakhus of Columbus, OH, Edwarda Sanders of Bradenton, FL, Olivia Hefner of Edinburg, TX, and and Adela Wing, Aurora Lynde, and Alicia Tillery, all of Sioux City; four half-brothers, Enrique Navarrete of Cantonville, MD, Dan Navarrete of Harlingen, TX, and Edwardo Navarrete and Rudy Navarrete, both of Sioux City, IA; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was a public relations representative for J&S Cafeterias, Inc. of Asheville, and operated the Pure Oil Company. He was also a director of the Wadesboro Housing Authority. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, and attended the First Baptist Church of Wadesboro, where he was a Sunday School superintendent, deacon, and leader of the Royal Ambassadors. He was a leader for the church's Boy Scout troop, and was a recipient of the coveted Silver Beaver award for his contribution to Scouting. He is survived by four children, Sharon (Ronald) Helms of Polkton, Chip (Anne) Pigg of Wadesboro, Debbie (Dean) Norman of Lewisville, and John (Cynthia) Pigg of Surfside Beach, SC; two sisters, Loraine "Rene" Cranford of Wadesboro, and Mary Esta Weatherly of Columbia, SC; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Martha Wolfe of Candler, NC. JACKSONVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA: George Nehemiah Wigfall, 85, died October 18, 2007. He was a pipefitter, and worked at Camp Lejeune for 37 years. He was a member of St. Julia A.M.E. Zion Church since 1943, where he was a former president of the Usher Board and served on the Board of Trustees. He sang with the church's Gospel Choir and Male Chorus, and was a preacher steward for over 25 years. He was a Mason for over 50 years.
